Maria Golas

Maria Golas, alto

Maria grew up in the rural community of Fisher Branch, Manitoba. Her first music teacher was her grandmother, who gave her lessons in piano and theory as a young child. With a rich background in solo voice, choir, piano, dance, and poetry, Maria moved to Vancouver in 2015 to pursue a Bachelor of Music degree at the University of British Columbia, where she studied voice under the tutelage of Marisa Gaetanne and performed with the UBC Early Music Ensemble and UBC Chamber Choir. During her years at UBC, Maria developed a sharp interest in Baroque and contemporary chamber music.

Maria has been proud to sing with the Vancouver Chamber Choir since 2019. She is also employed by the Vancouver Bach Choir, working with children of all ages, and freelances as a performer and educator in the Vancouver area. A skilled artistic collaborator, she is currently the alto section leader for the Vivaldi Chamber Choir and the choir at St. Mary’s Kerrisdale, and a member of the self-directed vocal ensemble VanDeca.
