Maria grew up in the rural farming community of Fisher Branch, Manitoba. Her first music teacher was her grandmother, who gave her piano and theory lessons as a young child. Maria was active in her community as a young musician and competed in many Manitoba Arts Festivals in voice, piano, and poetry. In 2015, she moved to Vancouver to pursue her Bachelor of Music degree at the University of British Columbia, where she majored in voice under the tutelage of Marisa Gaetanne and developed her interest in contemporary chamber music.
Since graduating with her B.Mus. in 2019, Maria has worked as a rehearsal assistant for the Vancouver Bach Children’s Chorus and as a freelance musician in the Vancouver area. She is currently a member of Laudate Singers, a section lead with the Vivaldi Chamber Choir, and sings with the self-directed vocal ensemble VanDeca. She is thrilled to be joining the Vancouver Chamber Choir for a second season.
